No the title of this blog has nothing to do with Spike Lee's movie.
What's the problem with school today?
Nothing if only the children wanted to be there.
The problem is trying to get the school age children enthused about math, science, and lets throw in a little reading.
I don't have an answer for that, its just that I know that learning something from rote might help you pass a test but it's not going to make you a very good scientist, engineer, doctor or even a very good worker.
Maybe the government should set up computer centers that when a child is babbling it's first words, it sits through endless cessions of baby can read. Why not have the government buy up enough of that math program I see on television were anybody can do the most complicated problem. The babies and those new math wizards seem very enthused.
Today I see parents who are pushing their children into the computer science fields, like they used to push their kids to become doctors or lawyers. Now I kind of question how good these kids will be at these new old fields if their just drones. I also question how many of these drones are still in the science fields they went to college for five years later.
The United States has lots of math enthusiast, just think of all those fantasy sports leagues.
I also can't help but think of those computer people who college wasn't really for them, such as the two Steve's and Paul Allen.
In case anyone thinks I'm belittling higher education, not on your life, not on your life. What I'm trying to employer is this country has to create enthusiasm for what is being taught and I have no answer as to how.
