Most economist base their assumptions on data the get from government. Unfortunately government data is wrong and misleading' Take the unemployment figures that thus government puts out (put on a happy face). Assuming that most of the numbers that the government gives out are correct, just ten percent would mess the whole kitten kabudal up. It could even be less to throw things off. I don't understand how anybody would take as the darn honest truth with the words season adjusted in it.
I don't even understand how so many people take as the truth birth, death model assumptions in job creations, especially when we have a much more accurate 3 month later in withholding tax report( perhaps it just the fact we live in an instant society). The way jobs are created in this country is constantly changing.
It appears all economist left, right and in between take government stats to bulk up their arguments.

Steve's Barking at trouble ahead
Reading the New York Times article about the treatment of workers at Fox comm in China and realizing that probably not the only industrial complex that threat it's workers like that, they may be treating their workers worse then then our factories did in the late 1900s early 20th century.
Now the workers in the United States had mini revolutions. The workers even started this socialist idea of having unions, of having people outside the owners and the bosses help decided on pay and working conditions.
Now I understand that the People Republic of China has been trying to steel many of our ideas, what would happen if this was one of those ideas. You know like having an outside union. That would probably mean as we have had workers strife. American companies would also be in trouble because it couldn't change on a dime and make changes to their products with little lead time. The other thing that I almost forgotten was the products couldn't be on the shelves of our supper stores in the short time that it is now. This would lead to turmole in the States. Oh the humanity the price of smart phones might even double. (Supply and demand).
Just think if there is worker unrest in Asia, the United States could face consumer electronic inflation. Which in turn could bring about stagflation. And you think things are bad now.
* supper store= Department stores= Walmart= Giant Electronic stores even Amazon.

Steve's barking at piracy
Piracy on the high sea's has come back in I style, but that's not what I'm writing about. I'm trying to write about the stealing of intellectual property. You know the stuff that the news does everyday. Does the Daily Show have the right to show news clips from other cable networks? Heck do I have the right to sing a popular song on the way to the grocery store. I know that the owners of the right to said song should be angry because nobody can butcher a song like I can. After all they might lose money from the song because my singing can leave a terrible sound in ones ears and there is a chance that sound can be associated with that song.
Now those who in industries that are concerned the most and want the government to do something about it are those are aren't afraid to plagiarizer other's material. ( How else can one explain hearing the same rhythm from so many various songs and the same plot line in movies and television from different studios). There is even one studio News corp who constantly complains about too much government regulation.
Now I'm not sure but wasn't Napster closed with out government interference?
Now I can't be sure of this either but I'm guessing that most people who pirate so called intellectual property wouldn't normally pay for it anyway. I'm also guessing that there is even a small percentage that because of hearing or seeing the stolen property are actually going to spend money on it.

Steve's barking at primaries what primaries?
I don't get it.
Primary season is the time to pick up delegates for the national convention , there really should be no winners and losers. A candidate can literally come in third in each caucus and primary and still have enough delegates to win to be the parties nominee for the run for the presidency of the United States.
I understand that if you come in first in these early caucus you get a s**t load of money, and if you if don't nobody wants to know your name. I understand that is why a lot of candidates say goodbye. The problem is that it in't very democratic.
Maybe the primaries are a kind of Darwinism, survival of the fittest candidates.
Why is it that most of the media ( I'm really talking about television) will have debates and would leave candidates out, then hire pundits who complain that there's too much money being spent on election of candidates. What's a pundit anyway? Someone who dents puns?
Why do they call these question and answer news conferences debates? Actually there Sunday talk shows.
Why don't we have debates on the presumptive problems of the day and how they should be fixed. Kind of like the debates one has on the debating teams in high school and in college.
I think the reason we can't have anything that resembles a debate is because the networks have to showcase there million dollar talent. ( I'm not sure the right word is talent).
One thing these primaries are good at, putting on television shows that equal any reality show having goofball characters.

Steve's barking at New York schooling
I was looking at CNBC the other day and with a rather smart recent grad from A New York City School the other day, when we happened to see that the price of oil had gone up. Of cause I had some rather choice words to say about that. The grad then asked me how does oil work in my car. I explained that about the internal combustion engine that I had learned in my general science course in high school.
I then asked if the modern day high school has a general science course. The reply was no. We got to talking about math. I was asked about math A and B which the present day student must pass.
This was explained to me that this was algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus in two years.
Now back in the day, a long time ago when I was going to high school each one of those math courses took an entire year to complete. For some reason I don't think the modern day student is any smarter in math then the students of yesteryear, my gut feeling is that the administration has gotten dumber. Now we were not brilliant mind you, a great many of us took a foreign language, and after two years we were lucky if we could ask a person name and for a cup of coffee. I understand this hasn't changed.
My question to myself has schooling changed for the better. My answer would have to be no.
I even understand that not every high school in New York City has a biology lab. I guess Biology no as sexy as computer science.

Steve's barking at gold bugs
Get the exterminator, if you see one gold bug there must millions.
With Ron Paul gold fever is making a comeback. I know from my history books that its highly contagiousness and it's a really killer disease. It's been know to destroy farms. It has even know to destroy a nation or two.
Gold is very heavy to carry around, when being payed with it your pockets will either split or your pants will fall down.
While it may not sound right, but a country on the gold standard with too little gold will be in an inflationary period, too little deflationary.
People actually want gold as our storage of value. I don't get it.
* Definition - Money = storage of value.

Steve's Barking at who's Paul Krugman
Who's Paul Krugman and why do they say such bad things about him?
Yes I know that he's a Nobel prize winner in economics but so was Milt Friedman (1).
Yea I know he has a PHD in economics, but after hearing what others who have a doctoral in economics say on the boob tube, I'm staring to believe that having being a doctor of economics is like having a doctor in basket weaving.
Yes I know that Dr Krugman teaches at Princeton, but isn't that the school that John Stossel graduated from?
Oh did I forget to mention that he writes a blog for the New York Times ( That I follow faithfully), the paper that recently ( or not so recently) published fiction as fact.
Now why should I even care. I don't correspond with the man, and probably never will. I doubt he reads my blog, there are so few who do. But I was surfing the net on my boggy board and I found an awful lot of critics of the good doctor. There is even a blog that's devoted to knocking Doctor Krugman.
Now all this made me think.( I know that can be dangerous). If the good doctor didn't exist, many a person would have a tough time earning a living. It seems like a whole cottage industry has emerged knocking Paul Krugman PHD.
I'm making a plea to all economist out there, if you don't understand the theory of want plus the ability to pay then you don't understand one of the most basic idea of economics, So please don't teach economics and if you have a degree, give it back.
(1) Dr Friedman worked for the government under the New Deal. Wasn't treated very nice. Became a leading supporter of free market economics, for which he won the Nobel prize in economics, proving once again that hell hath no fury then a economist scorned.
