Florida and Texas are happy with population growth especially people from the north east and California. The question is why? Me being in New York is very happy when people leave my city. I think that there are too many people here. We could lose maybe one or two million people even if some of those people are extremely rich. Too many people can make navigating the city uncomfortable. Too many people can stretch the resources of the city.
Now getting back to Florida and Texas, because there is no income tax in those two states the addition of new immigrants from other states doesn’t add to the tax coffers and stretches the resources of those two states. Plus the fact the the cost of homes goes up. So too does property taxes, but not enough to be offset the stress on the state budgets that the new comers impose.
It appears to this amateur economists that the increase of population from outsiders could be a detriment to these states rather then a blessing.
* Note the Governors of these two states want to reduce federal government spending. If one believes them then the federal help with their states budget would be negated.
